Word of the day: Impressive
Meeting Minutes by Andy Deng

Highlights:
Toastmaster Terra shared her learning from praising her son’s drawings, reminded us the power of praising, especially in work and life. But when to praise others? In fact, anytime. At the end, she re-emphasized us go home and praise our wife/husband; girlfriend/boyfriend and children. When you went to work, don’t forget to praise our boss and colleagues. It’s never too late for us to praise others.

Table Topic session hosted by Maggie about how to praise others.
1. Cathryn wanted to praise most is her daughter’s painting to dancing. That definitely able to motivate her to do more.2. Arena’s mother seldom prepared dinner except one time, but accidently she cut her toe but Arena’s really appreciated mother’s love and care to family.

3. Rainy: It’s a piece of cake for Rainy to praise herself because of her optimistic. And she’s also very good at encouraging herself when she faced troubles.

4. Cathy’s boss gave her so much encouragement and help. She definitely, wanted to praise her boss sincerely.

5. Steven was asked to praise his wife when he went home, we didn’t satisfied because we wanted to know such a handsome guy how to praise his wife.

6. Portia would encourage her child instead of criticize, because she believed happy life was far more important than high score in examination.

Prepared speech session:

Today, is evaluation workshop for the coming contest on July 28, our demo speaker is Porsher, so we had three evaluators : Tessa, Monica and Liu Bing .
Porsher demonstrated how coaching can be done with our honored guest Matt in different ways. Firstly, Porsher showed how a blaming way failed. In contrast, she used a subtle and easygoing way to communicate, by asking Matt for a solution to improve the situation and through negotiating to make win win situation. Matt handed in his report as Porsher’s expectation. Followup and effective coaching sure is a fabulous way to achieve effective communication.

Three evaluators showed us how “sandwich” approach works: what specific areas we appreciate and where and how speaker can improve in certain areas, then put them together, a good evaluation produced. That gave us a clearer example on how to achieve it better in future.
