Last night we had another exciting meeting, this time lead by our highly excitable Treasurer, Allen. Allen showed us the steps leading up to Spring festival: from cleaning; to door guards; to Spring Couplets on the doors; to eating dumplings and spending time with our family. It was a red, colourful and joyous meeting. Our GE for the evening was our helpful and informative VP Education, Liu Bing. Our Wordsmith, Nancy, helped us to use the adjective, “substandard”, otherwise we’d have to pay a fine of 1 RMB. The meeting was definitely not substandard. Our Timer, Susan, and Ah Counter, Jason Jiao, both did great jobs in their roles. Our Quotemaster Hong, reminded us of an inspiring quote from Forrest Gump, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’ll get.” Hong’s memories of her first taste of chocolate were also memorable, “it was really bitter and I didn’t like it.” Life is sometimes bitter and sometimes sweet. We also had two prepared speeches, one given by CK and one by Nancy. To read more about what CK & Nancy talked about in their speeches and to see the details please read more…

Last night was another healthy and exciting meeting. The meeting was lead by a first time Toastmaster: Rebecca, although she didn’t look like a first timer. Rebecca lead the meeting with confidence and was able to keep the meeting on track and on schedule. Her theme was Health and Life. Along with Rebecca, we had our active, healthy and happy Treasurer Allan lead us through an interesting and entertaining Table Topics session. He made us choose between being rich or poor – one important area for us to have a healthy and happy life. Our Quotemaster Monica gave an inspiring quote from the Buddha saying that each of us are the writers of our lives and of our diseases. She asked us to look forward 10 years and to picture ourselves then. Will we be healthier than now? the same? worse? What are we doing now or what can we do to be healthier? There were a lot more exciting comments, inspiring speeches and healthy and supportive evaluations. If you want to read more please read on…

Last night we had a great meeting telling us how to HUNT FOR A NEW JOB. Due to some last minute illnesses and changes, we were hunting for new jobs/roles before the meeting started. As always, our members stepped up and took on additional roles showing their flexibility. Some guests even took on roles. The meeting was lead by our VP Education, Liu Bing, and he was helped by Grace Tang who did a lot of the preparation work. Our GE was a first timer, Rwendy, but he passionately lead his team: Wordsmith, Connie; Timer, Angela; Ah Counter, Hong (guest). During Table Topics we were “interviewed” by Jason Yang our TT Master. And it turns out that Allen got his dream job as an investment banker as he won the TT session. Our Quotemaster Cliff (guest) gave an inspiring quote borrowed from Adidas, “Impossible is Nothing”, as he said this was quite relevant to job hunting because both require 3As: Attitude, Action, and A little bit of luck. CK gave a great TT Evaluation giving a constructive comment for all 7 speakers and being gentle with our guests. Well done! The theme on that night was Fast Thinking. Just as our toastmaster—Liu Bing said, we have to think fast in order to be winners in our daily life. And to prove the viewpoint, he held a table topic competition.
